University of North Texas - CASP

In 2010 GERTI authored the Death and Dying module for the University of North Texas' Certified Aging Services Professional program.


United Community Services Award

In 2009 GERTI and Evergreen Community were awarded the United Community Services Excellence in Community Service award which recognizes a human service organization that has significantly improved the lives of Johnson County residents.  To read more click HERE.


PEAK Award

GERTI and Evergreen Community were awarded the Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas Nursing Homes or "PEAK" Award from the Kansas Department on Aging on May 8, 2008 at the Governor's Conference. The award recognizes organizations pursuing progressive models of care who are instituting non-traditional models of care with home environments, a movement known nationally as “culture change."


Ombudsman Award

GERTI and Evergreen Community were awarded the first annual Ombudsman Award of Excellence by the Kansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program on May 2, 2008.  The award was further recognized by Kansas Senate Resolution 1865.


AAHSA (American Association of Homes and Services in Aging)

GERTI presented at the Annual Meeting & Exposition in Chicago, IL on November 10, 2009.  The presentation addressed creating efficiency in care delivery through blending departmental and staff roles with limited resources.

GERTI presented at the Annual Meeting & Exposition in Orlando, FL on October 21, 2007.  The presentation addressed how to develop leaders in nursing homes going through culture change.

GERTI presented at the Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Antonio, TX in November 2005.  The presentation was titled Improving Performance Through Education on Regulations.


MoAHA (Missouri Association of Homes for the Aging)

GERTI presented at MoAHA's 2nd Annual Conference on Culture Change in 2008 in St. Louis, MO.  The presentation focused on successful implementation of culture change.

GERTI presented at MoAHA's 1st Annual Conference on Culture Change on June 27, 2007, in St. Louis, MO.  The presentation focused on leadership characteristics needed to be successful in culture change.


UHCA (Utah Health Care Association)

GERTI presented at UHCA's 46th Annual Convention & Showcase in Salt Lake City, UT on October 2, 2008.  The presentation addressed beginning the culture change process in nursing homes.


ACHCA (American College of Health Care Administrators)

GERTI presented at ACHCA's 45th Annual Convocation on April 14, 2007, in Charlotte, NC.  The presentation focused on transforming traditional, institutional nursing homes into nursing homes that are implementing person-centered care.


KAHSA (Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging)

In 2010 GERTI revised the Inservice and Medication Toolkits to be made available to all KAHSA members.  GERTI also presented a webinar on nursing documentation on July 22, 2010.

Pioneer Network

GERTI presented at Pioneer Network's 9th National Conference on August 14, 2009, in Little Rock, AR.  The presentation addressed customer service and person directed care in nursing homes.

GERTI presented at Pioneer Network's 8th National Conference on August 22, 2008, in Washington, D.C.  The presentation focused on implementing culture change in nursing homes with limited resources.

GERTI presented at Pioneer Network's 6th National Conference on August 3, 2006, in Philadelphia, PA.  The presentation focused on culture change in nursing homes.

FutureAge Magazine

In the March/April 2005 FutureAge issue the creative staff scheduling that is utilized at Johnson County Nursing Center and taught in GERTI courses was highlighted.  The creative staff scheduling is discussed on page 28 of the Quality First article.  To read the full article click HERE.
